14.3° New Latitude Viticultural Region

Traditionally, grapes for wine-making have been grown between the 30th and 50th parallels in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Thailand has pioneered wine production in a narrow band in the north between the 14th to 18th parallels. Years of research, testing and development have opened up new frontiers in viticulture resulting in ‘New Latitude Wines’, a home of premium wines made from grapes grown in the exotic tropical latitude of 14.3 degrees north.
PB Valley vineyard is well located on hill side country right next to the edge of Khaoyai national park, North-Eastern Thailand at an elevation of 300-350 metres above sea level. The property has a total area of 400 hectares with local road running right through and surrounded by Payayen mountain ranges. Half of the property is on flat land and the other half is on a light slope next to the hill.  An average total rainfall measured at around 1,200 – 1,500 ml throughout the year with a lot of monsoon rain during raining season June – September. Winter start from October right through February and this is the period when draught occurs with hardly any rain. During October to November, low pressure cell from china causing a strong cold northern wind to blow by especially during November where an average day time temperature is around 18-20°C and 12-14 °C at night. The lowest temperature ever measured in the vineyard was at 7 °C in the morning. Summer starts from mid February right through to the end of May with hot and humid weather and moderate rainfall.

The location of PB Valley is perfect for viticulture due to the cold weather, small amount of rain fall during the raining season and the mountain ranges which surrounds the winery acts as a natural wind  breaker to protect our grapevines.
